Irrigation Intelligence

Precision irrigation.
Powered by ground truth.

Real-time soil data at three depths, wireless valve control, and field-level visibility — deployed across your farm without trenching, power runs, or cellular contracts.

Irrigation Intelligence is a Modulink Skill that turns raw sensor data into irrigation decisions. Start with monitoring. Add valve control. Automate when you're ready.

The Problem

You already know what's wrong. You just can't see it yet.

01

You’re overwatering somewhere and underwatering somewhere else.

Without soil data from multiple depths, every irrigation decision is a compromise. Schedules don’t know what the root zone looks like today.

02

Water costs keep climbing.

Whether you’re pumping, trucking, or drawing from an allocation, every gallon you waste costs more than it did last year.

03

One probe tells one story.

A surface sensor at 6 or 8 inches can’t tell you if water is reaching the deep roots — or blowing right past them. The full picture requires multiple depths.

04

The field is too far away.

Driving to check a valve or walking rows to feel the soil isn’t a strategy. It’s a workaround that stops working when your operation grows.

05

Frost catches you off guard.

Without real-time ground temperature from the field, you find out about a frost event when you see the damage. By then there’s nothing to do.

The Skill

See the soil. Control the water. From anywhere.

Each Modulink Terminal monitors soil tension at three depths — 12″, 24″, and 36″ — plus soil temperature. Pair it with a valve and you have a complete irrigation control point: sense, decide, act.

Stations communicate over private LoRa wireless with multi-mile range. No cellular, no monthly fees, no SIM cards. Power from 6–36V DC, battery (4× C-cell, ~2 year lifespan), or solar — no trenching, no power infrastructure. Deploy across remote fields in a day.

Start manual. Automate when you trust it.

Begin with real-time data and app-based valve control. See the patterns. Learn your soil. When you're ready, enable scheduling with built-in safeguards like flow verification. You set the pace — you're never locked into full automation.

What you can deploy today.

01

Three-depth soil moisture monitoring.

Wireless sensors reporting real-time soil tension to your phone. GPS-tagged stations organized by field and zone. Map views with live data overlays. Trend history per zone. Deploy in a day.

02

Soil temperature.

Ground temperature at the root zone. Time irrigation around conditions. Monitor frost risk during flowering. One more input for better decisions.

03

Manual valve control.

Open and close irrigation valves from the app. H-bridge motor control in every Terminal — supports DC latching solenoids and direct motor drive. Fault detection and alerting included. Designed for operations where 5–10 second response is fine.

04

Field and zone mapping.

GPS-provisioned sensors auto-associate with field boundaries. Organize by field, block, or zone. Map view with live overlays. Compare zones side by side.

Roadmap — Fall 2026Not yet available

What's coming — and why it takes real data.

Planned

Weather-integrated irrigation guidance.

Combining ground-truth soil data with NWS forecasts and satellite imagery to generate irrigation recommendations tuned to your fields. Currently in data collection phase with pilot farms.

Targeting Fall 2026

Planned

Automated irrigation scheduling.

Requires 5–6 months of field data before automation is trustworthy. We don’t ship algorithms trained on someone else’s soil. One growing season of your data enables intelligent scheduling on your fields.

Targeting late 2026

Planned

Frost and threshold alerting.

Configurable alerts on soil moisture, temperature, and derived conditions. Push notifications when something needs attention.

Targeting Fall 2026

Crops

From hillside groves to valley floors.

Vineyards

Precision deficit irrigation, zone by zone. Manage vine stress with actual root-zone data instead of estimates. Works across Paso Robles, Napa, Temecula, Valle de Guadalupe, and anywhere else you’re growing grapes.

Avocado

Shallow, sensitive root systems prone to root rot from overwatering and fruit drop from underwatering. Three-depth data finds the narrow margin between the two — especially critical on Fallbrook and Temecula hillside groves.

Coffee

Fast-draining volcanic soil with variable microclimates across elevation bands. Three-depth tensiometry reveals how moisture behaves differently at every depth and altitude — something a single surface probe never shows.

Macadamia

Deep root systems and extreme sensitivity to water stress during nut fill. The deficit that causes blank shells happens underground, weeks before harvest. Surface probes miss it entirely.

Row crops & orchards

If you irrigate it and the water bill matters, three-depth soil data pays for itself.

Expected Outcomes

ROI you can measure.

20–40%Reduction in water usageIndustry benchmarks for precision irrigation vs. schedule-based watering, supported by USDA and university extension research.
50%+Labor savings on valve managementElimination of manual valve checks and field visits via app-based control.
DaysTo deploy sensorsWireless, battery or solar powered. No trenching, no power runs, no contractor.
5–6 moField data before ML automationOne growing season. We earn the right to automate by proving the data first.

Water savings figures are industry-wide benchmarks for precision irrigation adoption. Numerous studies across USDA, university extension services, and commercial precision ag platforms report 20–40% reductions when transitioning from calendar-based to soil-data-driven irrigation. Modulink-specific field data will be available following agricultural pilot deployments.
